Siemens Rail Infrastructure for High Speed 2 Limited

Project Overview: HS2 required a specialist contractor to deliver a state-of-the-art European Train Control System (ETCS), Automatic Train Operation (ATO) and Traffic Management (TM) systems to control Britain’s high-speed rail services reliably and frequently. The Control, Command, Signalling (CCS) and Traffic Management (TM) Systems contracts will require the winning bidder to deliver the work with a combined value of £540m.

TransPennine Route Upgrade – West of Leeds

Siemens Rail Infrastructure for Network Rail Limited

The TRU programme aims to deliver improvements to connectivity and capacity on the TransPennine route between Manchester Victoria and Selby / York via Huddersfield and Leeds. Its goals include:

  • Leeds to Manchester Victoria target journey time of 44 minutes with 1 stop
  • York to Manchester Victoria target journey time of 67 minutes with 2 stops
  • Capability to operate 8 x 24m vehicles for InterCity services and 6 x 24m maximum for local services
  • A performance target of 92%.

Project Overview: The Traffic Management Partner tender represented the onboard element of the East Coast Digital Programme (EDCP), with tenderers required to team up with suppliers from the start to design, develop and deploy the European Train Control System (ETCS) technology and transform the East Coast Main Line into the first fully digital railway in the UK.

Major Signalling Framework for Control Period 6

Siemens Rail Infrastructure for Network Rail Limited

The UK-wide, Major Signalling Framework is collectively worth £2.4bn throughout Control Period 6 (2019-2024), with a possible two-year extension between 2024-26 up to £3.6bn. The contracts were designed to boost the reliability of assets, decrease railway delays and increase network capacity across the UK.

Project Overview: The East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP) is a cross-industry initiative that will help transform the performance of the East Coast Main Line, one of the busiest and most important economic routes in the UK. Comprising of three contracts valued at around £1.1bn, the first stage of the East Coast Digital Programme is intended to lay the foundations for a wider roll-out of cab signalling across the network.
